Windows Loading Problem Question:

My computer won't load into Windows it keeps giving me a blue screen with writing on it. What's wrong?

LaptopThere can be many things that make Windows not load up.

You might have a problem with your hardware. You might have damaged drivers. You copy of Windows might have become corrupted. You hard drive might have problems.

Each of the possible problems has their own way to fix them.

The easiest way is to boot Windows into Safe Mode by Pressing the F8 key just before the first Windows load screen comes up, either blue or black depending on which version of Windows you are running.

Computer Not Waking Up Question:

My computer doesn't start back up again after I have put it to sleep, or after I leave it alone for a few hours, what is wrong with it?

LaptopA problem like this can be caused by many things. The main problem is usually a problem with the drivers that tell Windows what kind of hardware is inside the computer.

When Windows goes to sleep, as opposed to being shut down, it reduces the number of items it uses and starts shutting off pieces of the computer. I there is a problem with a piece of hardware, or a driver, or Windows itself.

With so many problems it can be very hard to fix so you can have the computer go to sleep and come back to the way you left it.

Scanning Question:

I have printed off a photo I took and deleted off the computer. I now what to email it to a friend, how can I get it back on the computer?

LaptopDepending on how long ago, and what you have been doing since you deleted the file off your computer you can try to undelete the file by using the method shown in the File Deletion Question article by clicking here

If you have done a lot with your computer, or it was a while ago when you deleted the files you will need to scan them back on your computer using a scanner.

Outlook Express Spam Question:

I get a fair bit of spam email, is there a way I can get Outlook Express to filter them for me?

LaptopOutlook Express is a fairly old programme and doesn't have a great many features.

It is recommended that you start using a different email programme if you are getting a lot of spam. A free programme to try is Thunderbird from Mozilla.com . If you have a copy of Microsoft Office you will have an email programme called Outlook.

Both Thunderbird and Outlook have a reasonably good spam filtering systems, as long as they are turned on.

Outlook Express is a little bit harder.

Windows Vista Memory Question:

I have a computer with 4 Gigabytes of memory but Windows Vista says I only have 3, why is that?

LaptopWith the way that Windows Vista is written, if you have a 32bit version of Windows it can not see more than 3 gigabytes of RAM.

If you had a 64bit version of Windows Vista it can clearly see all the memory your computer has installed, unfortunately most people do not have the components or the money to get the 64bit version.

Luckily Microsoft has found out about this problem and has released a solution.

USB Thumb Drives on Windows 98 Question:

I bought a USB thumb drive but doesn't work on my computer. What can I do to get it to work in Windows 98?

When Windows 98 was released USB had only started to become popular. Soon after the release of Windows 98 SE USB thumb drives started to become popular replacing floppy disks.

Because of the changes after the release of Windows 98 most makers of flash drives gave away drivers for the thumb drives so they would work. Unfortunately with Windows 98 no longer being sold, and the built in support for USB drives in the latest versions of Windows, most USB drives you can buy, do not come drivers.
