I'm having trouble getting my Playstation 2 to load the games and DVD's:
Even
though Sony, the makers of the Playstation game console, makes every
effort to make sure the consoles will work without too many problems,
sometimes things just break.
The original Playstation 2 consoles,
the thick console with the DVD draw had problems with the laser that is
used to read the disks, as well as the power supply for the console
heating up dramatically.
The new Slim Playstation 2 consoles, the ones currently being sold and have the top loading flip lid and the large power brick, are starting to fail. One of the main problems is the console processor heating up due to the poor air circulation in the console, with another problems being the DVD drive not working properly.
Heat problems solution:
Turn the Playstation off and let it cool down, it might take a few hours, but it could lead to a longer possible life for your games console. You could also try standing the console on it's end, making it look like a tower instead of flat device.
DVD drive/laser problem solution:
Unlike the heat problem, the DVD drive and laser problems can lead to the complete death of the Playstation. You can try and prolong the life of the console by once again standing the console on it's end or on an angle, which ever allows the DVD's to be read.
The DVD drive and laser problems are a fatal problem and will lead to you having to buy a new console. At the time of print, September 2007, Clicksonline.info does not recommend a purchase of a Playstation 3 as a replacement for a failing Playstation 2. With the current price of the Playstation 3 still close to $1,000 against the price of the Playstation 2 at $99 there is a definate price advantage to buying a new Playstation 2.
